(Philly) A passenger screener at Philadelphia International Airport is facing charges that he distributed more than 100 images of child pornography via Facebook, records show.

Federal agents also allege that Transportation Safety Administration Officer Thomas Gordon Jr. of Philadelphia, who routinely searched airline passengers, uploaded explicit pictures of young girls to an Internet site on which he also posted a photograph of himself in his TSA uniform.

Homeland Security agents arrested the TSA officer March 24, and he is being held without bail.

Although the case was unsealed Thursday, neither the indictment nor the news release mentioned Gordon's job searching airline passengers for TSA.

The arrest comes as TSA grapples with several other incidents involving screeners, including a YouTube video posted last week by parents angry about the pat-down their 6-year-old daughter received at an airport in New Orleans. TSA officials said the pat-down was proper; the parents said the girl was "groped."

TSA security looks at people who complain about TSA security

It doesn't matter if TSA has implemented a program to screen passengers. It is the idea that they can pull someone from the line and interrogate them because they complain against TSA. It is an abuse of power. It is bad enough that TSA screeners have a chip on their shoulder. Travelers don't need a power hungry goon going through an ego trip.

(CNN) Washington-- Don't like the way airport screeners are doing their job? You might not want to complain too much while standing in line.

Arrogant complaining about airport security is one indicator Transportation Security Administration officers consider when looking for possible criminals and terrorists, CNN has learned exclusively. And, when combined with other behavioral indicators, it could result in a traveler facing additional scrutiny.

CNN has obtained a list of roughly 70 "behavioral indicators" that TSA behavior detection officers use to identify potentially "high risk" passengers at the nation's airports.

Many of the indicators, as characterized in open government reports, are behaviors and appearances that may be indicative of stress, fear or deception. None of them, as the TSA has long said, refer to or suggest race, religion or ethnicity.

But one addresses passengers' attitudes towards security, and how they express those attitudes.

It reads: "Very arrogant and expresses contempt against airport passenger procedures."

TSA officials declined to comment on the list of indicators, but said that no single indicator, taken by itself, is ever used to identify travelers as potentially high-risk passengers. Travelers must exhibit several indicators before behavior detection officers steer them to more thorough screening.

Instrusive Pat Down on Children is NO Difference to Pedophilia

This child will never be the same again. Instrusive pat-downs on children is no difference to pedophilia. The scar from this experience will further damage the development of the child and the way she interacts socially. It doesn't matter pat-downs to children is procedural and necessary. There are other ways to screen a child without going through an invasive pat down. Touching a child is just plain wrong.

(ABCNEWS) The family of the 6-year-old girl who received a pat down at airport security in New Orleans said today there needs to be a different screening process for children.

"We struggle to teach our kids to protect themselves, to say 'no, it's not ok to touch me in this way in this area," the girl's mother, Selena Drexel, said. "Yet here we are saying it's ok for these people." If we don't find other ways we're making them more vulnerable, she said.

Drexel and her husband, Dr. Todd Drexel, of Bowling Green, Ky., appeared this morning in an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America."

A video of the couple's daughter going through the screening went viral on the Internet, getting thousands of views on sites like YouTube. It shows a TSA agent rubbing the young girl's inner thighs and running her fingers inside the top of the girl's blue jeans.

The Drexels said they stood powerless, watching as their daughter was patted down.

"I did ask for alternatives, I asked for her to be rescanned," Selena Drexel said. "They just refused and said they were going to do what they were going to do."

Selena Drexel said she could only speculate as to why the 6-year-old was selected for the pat down. She said that the TSA supervisor made it clear "non-verbally" that there would be trouble if she caused a fuss.

The girl's father said that while his daughter was polite and respectful during the screening, she broke down into tears afterwards.

TSA Employee Caught Stealing $160,000 from Checked Bags

(New York Post) Two TSA agents were busted today at Kennedy Airport for stealing $160,000 in cash from bags, authorities said.

Davon Webb, 30, and Couman Perad, who turned 36 today, were arrested after admitting they had regularly stolen from checked bags, sources said.

In one instance, Perad, who joined the Transportation Security Administration in 2002, and Webb, who has been an agent since 2004, stole $39,000 on Jan. 30 from a bag at Terminal 8, sources said.

The passenger whose money was stolen was on his way to Argentina, sources said.

The $39,000 was later found in their homes after TSA notified Port Authority police, sources said.

Also today, the TSA confirmed that a string of security lapses took place at Newark Airport within the past month, the Newark Star-Ledger reported

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two incidents were among a string of five security lapses at Newark within the last 30 days.

Another incident reported by the officials involved a dead dog that was brought to the airport by its owner and loaded onto a Continental Airlines jet without ever being screened.

(Seattle Weekly) After an hour of deliberation Friday evening, a Bernalillo County, New Mexico jury found Phil Mocek not guilty of all four charges he faced after refusing to show his ID and using a video recorder at a TSA checkpoint in 2009. If you're keeping score at home, that's Mocek: 1, TSA: 0.

According to Edward Hasbrouck of the Identity Project, Mocek did not testify, and the defense rested on Friday without calling any witnesses or presenting any evidence. Hasbrouck attended the trial; he writes:

The jury found that even without rebuttal, the TSA and Albuquerque police had failed to satisfy their burden of proving any of the four charges: concealing his identity, refusing to obey a lawful order (it was never entirely clear whether this was supposed to have been an order to turn off his camera, an order to leave the airport despite having a valid ticket, or an order to show ID, none of which would have been lawful orders), trespassing, and disorderly conduct.

Exploding Bullets Not Hairspray Caused Bomb Scare at Miami Airport

The bag didn't have a gun. It only had bullet primers. Why would anyone pack a bagful of primers? It is possible that the unstable primers would activate and cause a fire in the hull of the plane. (NBC Miami) A man has been arrested after FBI and TSA officials said his luggage contained volatile gun parts, which caused his bag to explode Tuesday just before it was about to be loaded on a plane.

The unidentified 37-year-old man had 500 to 700 bullet primers in his luggage. Primers are considered the "spark plugs" of a bullet and ignites the gun powder, projecting it toward the intended target.

Officials originally said the exploding bag was caused by a hairspray aerosol can.

The situation turned out to be much more serious and could have been even more dangerous if the bag containing the combustible elements would have exploded while the plane was in the air.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad was called to the airport around 11:30 a.m. after a baggage handler said he was taking luggage to an American Airlines plane that had just arrived from Boston and a bag exploded, sending pieces of metal flying.

The FBI confirmed the passenger and the exploding checked bag got on the flight in Boston and the luggage was being transferred to another flight headed for Jamaica.

The 148 original passengers from Flight 2585 had already departed the plane before the incident.

While it is legal to have a gun and ammunition in your checked bags, it is illegal to pack primers or percussion caps.

TSA Warning Terrorist Using Explosive Thermoses

TSA must have a lot of time on their hands to figure this one out. Explosive thermoses is the decision imposed by the TSA as a viable form of terrorism. Even though we can't carry liquids on the plane, why would anyone bring a thermoses? In fact, I fly routinely and never saw anyone carry one, unless they work at the airport or doing construction work at the airport. I wonder what will be next. Perhaps, explosive pens.

(The Hill) Holiday travelers went into Christmas weekend with a new warning by the Transportation Security Administration about the potential for explosives packed in Thermoses.

"The possible tactics terrorists might use include the concealment of explosives inside insulated beverage containers, so in the coming days, passengers flying within and to the U.S. may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers," the TSA cautioned in a public notice.

Even though the beverages contained within are already prohibited, the TSA said that "additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers" would be in place at screening checkpoints, including X-ray, inspections and technology to detect explosive traces.

(WBSTV.com) Channel 2 Action News has learned a TSA security worker accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a woman had previously been convicted of misdemeanor harassment and stalking.

Randall King remains hospitalized following a suicide attempt. Police said last Wednesday, King agreed to drive a woman home from the airport. Instead, investigators said King took her to a MARTA station parking lot and placed novelty handcuffs on her.

Investigators said he drove her 50 miles away to his home in Troup County and sexually assaulted her. The woman told police that King gave her a suicide note, his car and let her go, investigators said.

The woman was wearing a flannel panty liner, that evidently aroused suspicion, causing her to endure what she described as a ‘horrible’ experience.

Humiliated by her experience, the unidentified Army vet wrote to women’s health company Gladrags to detail what happened.

She said the invasive patdown was additionally humiliating because it brought back memories of a previously suffered sexual assault.

She wrote: ‘The TSA agents were doing their job, they were as delicate as they could be, etc., etc.

‘But what ultimately happened is that I was subjected to a search so invasive that I was left crying and dealing with memories that I thought had been dealt with years ago of prior sexual assaults.

Her email added: ‘Because of my flannel panty-liner. These new scans are so horrible that if you are wearing something unusual (like a piece of cloth on your panties) then you will be subjected to a search where a woman repeatedly has to check your ‘groin’ while another woman watches on (two in my case – they were training in a new girl – awesome)’.

The woman said that she was speaking out because she didn’t want another woman to face the same humiliation.

‘I just don’t want another woman to have to go through the ‘patting down’ because she didn’t know that her glad-rag would be a matter of national security.’

Newark Airport controversial scanners are barely used on busiest travel day

NEWARK — The choice between a "virtual strip search" and a "grope" was strictly academic Wednesday for most holiday travelers flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport.

The majority of Newark’s full-body scanners were idle throughout much of the day, depriving most passengers of the chance to opt out of the controversial screening procedure even if they had wanted to.

All in all, Thanksgiving eve was a non-event at Newark Liberty, reflecting the relative calm reported at airports around the country.

This just shows the absurdity of using body scanners. It is useless. There hasn't been any issue during Thanksgiving regarding to terrorist activity. Since most of the body scanners were idle, travelers went from point A to point B without a plane blowing up. It seems the status quo before body scanners became the mainstream was just fine. It proves how the government went a tad overboard with airport security.

While the airports claim that the "Opt-Out" plan didn't materialize as planned, the highways are seeing a whole different story. Due to TSA groping passengers at the airports, there are more highway travel this year compared to last year. For instance, it is reported that a 30-mile backup on the Massachusetts Turnpike is causing holiday headaches for thousands of travelers. 2) Intelligence-based assessments: The method the Israeli airline El-Al employs to keep terrorists off its planes. This requires personnel trained assessing a traveler's threat level through a series of questions designed to evoke emotion.

3) Profiling: The method most recently endorsed by columnist Charles Krauthammer in a Washington Post op-ed. "...95 percent of these inspections, searches, shoe removals and pat-downs are ridiculously unnecessary," he wrote. "The only reason we continue to do this is that people are too cowed to even question the absurd taboo against profiling -- when the profile of the airline attacker is narrow, concrete, uniquely definable and universally known. So instead of seeking out terrorists, we seek out tubes of gel in stroller pouches."

(Daily Mail) A German government minister has today revealed that a fake bomb found on an Air Berlin flight in Namibia was manufactured in the U.S. to test airport security.

It was not yet clear who had planted 'test suitcase', said German interior minister Thomas de Maziere, but the one fact they had established was that the device had been manufactured by a U.S. company that specialises in alarm systems.


The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confirmed today that it was working with the German and Namibian authorities 'to determine the origin of the device and the reason it was being transported on the plane'.

The suitcase, which contained batteries connected to a detonator and a ticking clock, was intercepted by authorities at Windhoek airport on Wednesday night and sparked an international terror alert.
