February 15, 2011David Letterman revealed the cover of the 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue featuring Russian model Irina Shayk onMonday, surprisinghis audience and Shayk, too.
"Of course I didn't know," said Shayk, who cried on camera after the revelationwas made on"Late Show with David Letterman."
"Alright, drop the deal," said Letterman, instructing the veil to fall from the New York City billboard portraying the magazine cover.
"I think from this day on my life's going to change," Irina told ET. "I'm from a very small village in the middle of nowhere. And I was never told I was going to be a model, and today is the day that I'm on the cover of Sports Illustrated."
Shayk joins the long list of super models who have graced the legendary magazine cover: Tyra Banks, Elle MacPherson, Heidi Klum, Kathy Ireland, Christie Brinkley and Brooklyn Decker to name a few.
Coincidentally, Shayk's first SI cover was photographer Bjorn Iooss' first time shooting for the magazine.
"How great," said Shayk. "His first time he's getting a cover and he brought this great opportunity for me to get a cover as well."
The 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is available online now.
