Welcome Sarah from All Our Fingers in the Pie

One of the most amazing things to me about blogging is becoming friends with people from all over the world and Sarah, from All Our Fingers in the Pie, is one of those people.  Sarah has finally settled in the small prairie city of Swift Current, Saskatchewan after traveling and living in many other places.  Not only is she an amazing cook, but Sarah teaches cooking, and is always trying different recipes from home and abroad which she shares with us on her blog.

Sarah has graciously agreed to do a guest post for me today.  Thanks so much Sarah.

Grace at Sense and Simplicity has invited me to do a guest post for her this summer.  It sounds like fun and I will be checking in to see what her other guests write.  We were all given the same 20 questions, but could choose as many or few as we wanted to talk about.    Here it goes...

Who do you consider to be a style icon (past or present)?

I am a product of the 'flower power generation'.  I loved Twiggy, the Beatles, the hippie mentality, although I was way too conservative to ever participate! I tried to dress like Twiggy.  I have no idea why I did not cut my hair like her.  I would sketch pictures of her.  I thought she was so beautiful.  I was a total skinflint and it was so nice to see someone skinny be beautiful.

What is your favourite way to entertain?

I love to put on a big spread!  I am obsessed about having enough food to feed everyone.  Sometimes I go to excess.  Did I say 'sometimes'?  Usually I go overboard!  I love to serve tapas.  Or I love to have an ethnic meal.  I just love to make food!

What centrepieces do I have for my dining room table?

I make them up as I need them!  I am basically cheap and hate to spend money and I hate having to store stuff.  I might find a pinata for a Mexican themed meal or use a special serving piece with food in it.  I especially just like a cluster of candles.  At Christmas time, I'll clip a few pine boughs and nestle candles in them.  I have an Indian pranta (brass dish) that I use for a collection of candles.

If you could live for one month in a house anywhere in the world where would it be and what kind of house would it be?

That is a difficult question for a former realtor!  I love houses.  I love adobes, I love rustic cabins, I love open, airy, vaulted spaces overlooking the sea.  But if I were to choose, I would choose the villa in Enchanted April.  This is a wonderful, girl's movie set in 1920's Italy and England.  Four dissimilar women share a secluded castle overlooking the sea in Italy and embark on a journey of rediscovering hope and love amid their beautiful, tranquil setting.

What inspires you most - the mountains or the ocean?

Truth is ... neither.  I am a prairie girl at heart and when I moved back, it felt right.  I love the big sky, the big open spaces and the smell of grasses.  I love all the horizontal lines, I think.  It is very calming.  I love the fiery sunsets and sunrises.  I love seeing all the deer, antelope, big owls and hawks, and roadside flowers.  It must feel like freedom, I think.
